Tradition and Innovation: the Roots of Our Heritage as Craftspeople
Our story begins in a time of change — the country was still divided, and I was beginning my vocational training in a medium-sized workshop in East Germany.
I remember very well the start of my professional future in a medium-sized workshop on the outskirts of Leipzig and my experience of the flood of new impressions. Everyone knew and could do so much that was still completely foreign to me. I found a training position, yes, but above all a teacher who was to play a major role for the rest of my life.
The company had been commissioned to refurbish and restore valuable furniture that subsequently left the country and was sold in Western Europe for large sums of money.
We constantly honed our techniques so that the furniture we shipped would be ever more beautiful and valuable. This was what spurred us on, stoked the fires of our energy, perhaps heightened our self-esteem as well — our desire to send something special from the East that would astonish people in the West.
With my journeyman’s certificate in my pocket and bursting with pride at being the best graduate of my training course, I fled the country and ultimately arrived in Hamburg, the city that holds such a special place in my heart, where I quickly realised that my training had instilled very special values in me and provided me with an invaluable set of manual skills. A treasure that nobody could take away from me.
This was the foundation and the deep roots of our company that still nourish today the creative power that astounds our customers and that give us the confidence to tackle tasks for which other workshops seem unable to find solutions.
Today, we are immensely proud of the fact that our team, despite the many setbacks we have experienced, is a regionally and internationally recognised company that can offer the entire range of textile and leather processing for furniture, windows and walls. Our reputation comes not only from the German seal of quality Meistergeführt [Managed by a Master] and my standing as the best graduate of my training programme, but above all, indeed, first and foremost, from motivated, stupendous employees who enjoy working on projects for and with you as we create together objects of inestimable value.
